I encourage everyone to be well informed before making a treatment choice as there is no going back.  The surgeon will tell you surgery is the best option, the radiation oncologist will tell you ratiation is the best solution.  Everyone of us is different and one option may be more appealing than another depending on your specific condition.

Prostate cancer is Big business and will increase with the Baby Boomers'   Surgeons,  Proton therapy, Cryosurgery, as well as IMRT want as much of this pie as they can have.

I was treated with a form of external beam radiation called SBRT/CyberKnife which was a great option for my early stage localized prostate cancer.  The treatment consisted of five days of radiation treatment(one hour).  I was able to work every day during and after treatment.

My biggest concern was quality of life after treatment.  That is why I selected the CyberKnife, as the clinicial data suggested the lowest rate of side effects and highest cure rate.   I completed CyberKnife treatment May 7, 2008.  Six months later I have "ZERO" lingering side effects.

I was treated At Stanford University Medical Center by Doctor Christopher King.  Doctor King started the first Clinical Trial treating Prostate Cancer with the CyberKnife, in Dec. 2003.   ZERO biological failures have occured to date.  This is very unlikely to continue as prostate cancer like to beat mans' attempt to irradiate it.

Fred
